I feel I have to post this……but it is NOT a pretty picture!

I have heard in church, statistics that I found hard to believe. This is not an accurate quote as I’m sure my numbers are incorrect. But it’s something like this….”If your household earns $50,000/year, you are in the top 7% of the wealthiest in the USA. Seems hard to believe, doesn’t it?? If you are reading this blog, chances are you are in the top 7%!

This journey has opened our eyes to so much beauty in our nation, but it has also brought a renewed awareness of how much poverty there is as well. We saw MANY areas with homes as you see below and you have to wonder, how can this be??

But when you see the “ugly” of the barren landscape around these areas, you might be able to understand a bit better. How do you eek out a prosperous living with this all around you?

Growing up in central Illinois where the black soil is fertile and rich with nutrients, we always had more than enough. Others weren’t so fortunate. I am so thankful for the life, family and friends that God as bless me with – take a moment to reflect on YOUR blessings!

Happy Trails!

  1. Oh Peg that has to be in New Mexico–we said the same thing when we saw the homes and trailers–so thankful for God’s blessings of a better life. He has been faithful and thanks to our fabulous family heritage we have been spared of this poverty. Glad your having fun as you journey along. Enjoy and be safe. love ya all Cher

    1. Hi Cher – actually those pics were from southern Utah. We’re heading for New Mexico tomorrow – I’m CERTAIN we’ll see more of the same. Wasn’t sure I should post that one but it really made me realize (once again) just how blessed we are.

  2. We have so much! Your heart is the pretty picture in this post. Its eyeopening to travel and see the incredible beauty of the county and some of the hardship that people have in their lives too. Laurie and I are going to hit the road again soon, for a couple weeks of vagabonding around in Utah. Mountain biking in Vernal and maybe hit up Grand Junction/Fruita Colorado trails too – if the weather holds. If not we may head to St. George, where its lower and usually warmer at this time of the year. It’s neat to follow your adventures. Great photography!
