TRAVEL DAYS…..DEFINITELY NOT OUR FAVORITES!

After the Cowboy Museum, we had dinner at yet another iconic spot, The Cattlemen Steakhouse. This restaurant first opened it’s doors in 1910 – to put this in perspective, it opened almost 2 decades before sliced bread!) It is located in the Oklahoma City stockyards and is positioned on historic Route 66. Howie ordered theContinue reading “TRAVEL DAYS…..DEFINITELY NOT OUR FAVORITES!”

OKLAHOMA CITY EAST KOA HOLIDAY OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA

This KOA campground is about 20 minutes south of downtown OKC. It is located about 1 minute from one of the major highways, so it is easy to get to places. There is a Love’s Truck Stop at that intersection. The campground is a bit dusty even though the roads are blacktop. The sites areContinue reading “OKLAHOMA CITY EAST KOA HOLIDAY OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA”

The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum – OKC

I have a bit of a confession…..all my life, I wanted to be Annie Oakley! When I was little, I used to sit for hours listening to my 45 rpm record player. One of the records was songs about Annie Oakley – right then and there, she became my hero! So it’s not too surprisingContinue reading “The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum – OKC”

OKLAHOMA CITY NATIONAL MEMORIAL AND MUSEUM

What a tragedy for our nation and all the victims. It’s one thing to hear about this on the news but yet another to be here in person and get a fuller grasp of the magnitude of this devastating event. Being here made me think of last year when we visited the 9-11 memorial –Continue reading “OKLAHOMA CITY NATIONAL MEMORIAL AND MUSEUM”

We’re Not In Kansas Anymore! Sites on Route 66

Nope! We’re in O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A, OKLAHOMA!!! (Makes me want to break into song!) We’ll be here for a total of 5 days and we’re focusing on three major areas of interest. First, we want to visit several Route 66 icons – did you know that the longest stretch of the famous highway is through Oklahoma? Next,Continue reading “We’re Not In Kansas Anymore! Sites on Route 66”

AIR CAPITAL RV PARK – WICHITA, KN

Well……again, this is not our favorite park. If you like large concrete parking lots, then this is the place for you. There are no trees and patches of grass between sites – just lots of cement and close neighbors. The plus side is there is no dust like our last campground. I know, I soundContinue reading “AIR CAPITAL RV PARK – WICHITA, KN”

West Omaha/NE Lincoln KOA Holiday

While we tend to frequent KOA’s with some regularity and mostly enjoy our stay, we both agree that this KOA ranks lower on the scale than most. The sharply curved entrance to the KOA was a dirt road filled with pot holes making it difficult for rigs of any size to maneuver. This road conditionContinue reading “West Omaha/NE Lincoln KOA Holiday”

SHIPSHEWANA CAMPGROUND SOUTH PARK – Shipshewana, IN

One may accuse me of being a bit biased since I worked in the office here for three months, but I can honestly say this is a really nice campground. The location is ideal as it’s about 3/4 mile from downtown, 1/2 mile to the famous flea market (held every Tuesday and Wednesday) and surroundedContinue reading “SHIPSHEWANA CAMPGROUND SOUTH PARK – Shipshewana, IN”
